For all of us the first memory we have of becoming conscious of ourselves is realised through the discovery that we are centred and planted in a physical body. The sensations from the environment around us is experienced through each of our senses. Because of this, in Healing the Shadow, we believe the first archetype to come online is the Feeling Body archetype or Lover as it is otherwise known.
As babies, we are defenceless and boundaryless as we rely on others to sustain our bodies with food, water, warmth and connection, which establishes a sense of safety in the strange world we are beginning to experience.

Is it difficult to go against nature and the natural laws that govern our human existence on this earth? How does anyone feel into the boundaries of these and how do we even know that they exist at all?
These questions evoke a separation between the animalistic origins of mankind and the evolution of the moral principles that have slowly influenced the cultures of the separate communities as and when they have established throughout the different regions of the world. Albeit the foundations of these rules of human interactions have stemmed from our ancestors in different environments, they point towards a set of social constructs which go to normalise behaviours in community and group settings including families.

At times, I can turn inwardly and ask the question ‘Who am I in this moment?’. Sometimes I feel solid and fully in my body. Other times I feel a whisper, a haze of a residual what was me gradually fading away into a nothingness. It is at times like these that it can be incredibly scary to experience nothingness as the experience beyond two opposing states of being and not being unveil itself.
‘Who am I?’ can be such a triggering question when transitioning from a previously known part of yourself to an emerging persona that is no longer tied to previous triggers and reflexes from dissolved traumas. In these unsettling moments the ashes of the past no longer hold the foundation nor the structures from which the coping strategies of a previous ego state can reside.

Holding patience whilst experiencing a personal state of terror can be one of the most challenging situations to endure. Yet having faith in an emerging transformation transgressing the experience of painful opposites is often one to be endured without the promise of a resolution in sight.
How then to navigate one’s own barren and yet volatile psychological landscape fraught with a minefield of unconscious flashbacks triggering the unsuspecting individual?
Fear, and our relationship with it will determine our ability to survive the re- experiencing of our historical trauma.
